College Counseling, Auxiliary Programming, and High School Humanities

Marian Carpenter, college counselor and internship coordinator, has guided students with language-based learning differences, such as dyslexia, through the college selection process for more than 10 years. As Siena’s College Counselor she assists juniors and seniors in selecting the best fit for their post-highschool path, runs numerous interactive sessions including a mock college admissions simulation, and helps families interpret the level of support offered by a wide variety of colleges. She earned her undergraduate degree in English and History from Bates College, which awarded her the John Tagliabue Prize for Creative Writing, and she earned an MFA from the University of Maryland. She has published articles in LINK for Counselors that demystify the process of applying for accommodations at the college level and demonstrate the benefits of internships for high school students.

Why I Teach At Siena: because it is so rewarding to help our creative, hardworking, and bright students grow tremendously and accomplish their inspiring goals!
