M. L. Kenney

M.L. Kenney, middle school English teacher, holds a B.A. in English literature and critical theory from Macalester College and an M.S. in secondary literacy and special education from Johns Hopkins University. Before coming to Siena, she taught 9th and 10th grade English to students with exceptional learning needs at Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter High School, where she also served as an IEP case manager. In the summers, she is a student at Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English, where she is pursuing her second master’s degree, this time in English. She is a proud member of the Bread Loaf Teacher Network.
Why I Teach at Siena: Because Siena serves as an affinity space for its students, which presents an opportunity to build confidence together, as a learning community. Through the school's multisensory approach, I get to give my students unique access points to text through engaging activities that get them “inside” the works of literature they are experiencing.
