Growing Global Citizens
Students delve into the Age of Exploration and begin learning important skills such as map reading, using a compass for directions, and memory techniques for retaining important information. Teachers help students learn tools and strategies for retaining, organizing, understanding, and utilizing the information they discover. Students make personal connections to history as they learn about colonial America—specifically colonial Maryland and Virginia—and exercise independence and creativity through projects and presentations and multisensory lessons such as constructing realistic models of Jamestown. Students work both independently and in small groups, developing teamwork skills as they explore the New World.
