Shana Silverman

Shana Silverman, elementary teacher (4th grade), is entering her 13th year in education. She has taught grades 2nd through 5 at independent schools. With a background in Quaker Education and meditation and yoga, Shana enjoys bringing practices of silence, breath, and mindfulness into the classroom. She earned her B.A. in Elementary Education from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. Outside the classroom, Shana enjoys spending time with her family, going on walks, native gardening, connecting with friends, watching documentaries, and eating and cooking delicious food.

Why I Teach At Siena: Because I'm passionate about working with students who learn differently because our society needs more out-of-the-box thinkers to be our future leaders, problem solvers, scientists, engineers, writers, and artists. My goal is to empower my students to understand and cultivate their unique strengths, while helping them practice tools to support areas they find challenging. Most of all, I want my students to gain confidence in their perspectives and talents and have the courage to share them with the world.
