Teaching Tools for Success
Executive functioning refers to the mental steps individuals take allowing them to plan, organize, and accomplish tasks. Siena’s students are provided with tools and strategies to help them acquire and refine these regulatory skills through daily instruction both in and outside the classroom. Siena helps make students more aware of how they learn best and encourages them to become mindful of their individual learning process.
Students explore different approaches and ways to organize thoughts, plan projects, brainstorm ideas, and revise work. They are provided multiple ways to compose an essay or tackle a creative project and then reflect on what does and does not work for them as an individual. Siena recognizes that executive functioning is a skill set that will enable student success far beyond the classroom.
The Siena School Planner is used daily by students to help regulate their homework and assessment schedule.
